What it is
A portable grinder with the abrasive disc at right angles to the motor shaft, cutting, grinding and polishing metal, stone and concrete. Flex launched it in 1954 and its brand named the tool in several languages.
The attribution to Ackermann + Schmitt (Flex brand, 1954) comes from company history; some sources cite earlier angled tools from Metabo and other manufacturers. The credit for the first has not been checked against the patents.
What it led to
- cutting and grinding of metal on site, in workshops and scrapyards
- abrasive and diamond cutting discs
- stone polishing and weld finishing
