What was discovered
A probe landed on the asteroid Itokawa, collected particles from its surface and brought them back to Earth in 2010, despite numerous malfunctions. It was the first asteroid sample ever brought to Earth, and it used ion engines for years.
The capsule landed at Woomera (South Australia) on 13 June 2010.
