What it is
A method for measuring the concentration of metals by measuring how much light from a lamp made of the same element the vaporised sample absorbs. It became the standard technique for metal analysis in chemistry, medicine and the environment.
What it led to
- analysis of heavy metals in water and food
- clinical diagnosis of trace elements
- the analytical-instrument industry in Australia
