What was discovered
Bell demonstrates that no local hidden-variable theory can reproduce all the predictions of quantum mechanics, and derives an experimentally testable inequality. It turns the Einstein-Bohr philosophical debate (EPR, 1935) into experimental physics.
Published in the short-lived journal Physics during a sabbatical year in the United States; Bell worked at CERN as an accelerator physicist.
