What it is
Pratt, a musician and factory inspector, devised this murder-mystery deduction game during the bombing of Birmingham in the Second World War, inspired by detective novels and the parlour games played by his clients. Waddingtons bought it and gave it the trade name Cluedo, combining "clue" with "ludo".
Patented in 1947, it was not manufactured until 1949 due to post-war material shortages.
