What was discovered
The first dinosaur egg nests to be recognised as such, found in the Flaming Cliffs alongside skeletons of Protoceratops and the first Velociraptor. They showed that dinosaurs laid eggs in nests.
Eggshell fragments from southern France had been known since 1869, but had not been identified with certainty. In 1993 it was shown that the eggs attributed to Protoceratops actually belonged to Oviraptor.
