What it is
A sound-engineering technique that reworks reggae recordings by stripping out vocals, emphasising bass and drums and applying echo and reverb on the mixing desk. It made the studio an instrument and is the origin of remixing.
Its origin is disputed: Ruddy Redwood is said to have produced the first 'dub' (a voiceless version) by accident in 1967; King Tubby and Lee Perry developed it through 1973.
