What it is
An electric hammer with a pneumatic percussion mechanism that drives the bit into concrete and brick with combined blows and rotation. Bosch introduced it in 1932 and made drilling hard building materials easy.
The 1932 date is taken from the company's own history; other makers (Hilti, Kango) had electric percussion hammers in the 1930s and 1940s, and the credit for the first is unclear.
What it led to
- drilling concrete and masonry in building and renovation
- wall plugs and anchors
- combination hammers with chisel function
