What was discovered
A set theory in which membership is a degree between 0 and 1, allowing formal reasoning with vague concepts. It gave rise to fuzzy logic and fuzzy control, used in household appliances, trains and cars.
Zadeh was born in Baku to an Iranian father and trained at the University of Tehran before emigrating to the United States. It is included as the contribution of a researcher from the region.
