What was discovered
Weeks after the Japanese discovery, Chinese groups raised the critical temperature of iron pnictides to 43 K and then to 55 K. They established a second family of high-temperature superconductors after the cuprates.
Superconductivity in LaFeAsO:F was discovered by Hideo Hosono (Tokyo, February 2008, 26 K).
