What it is
Barraquer corrected myopia and hypersightedness by shaping the cornea with a microkeratome, after freezing the tissue and reshaping it on a lathe. It is the origin of modern refractive surgery.
Barraquer was from Barcelona but based in Bogotá from 1953; he formulated the idea in 1949 and published the technique in 1964.
