What it is
An iron, phosphate and lithium cathode material, cheap, stable and non-flammable, for lithium-ion batteries with very long cycle life. It is used in buses, electric cars and stationary storage.
Goodenough shared the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for lithium-ion batteries.
What it led to
- LFP batteries in Chinese buses and cars
- stationary lithium-ion storage
- reduced dependence on cobalt
