What it is
A glass plate covered with potato-starch grains dyed red, green and blue that filter light and give a colour transparency on development. It was the first colour process in general use.
Patented in 1903 and marketed in 1907; the plates were single transparencies and their low sensitivity required long exposures.
What it led to
- colour photography by amateurs and reporters (the first colour images of war)
- Dufaycolor and mosaic films
- Kodachrome and modern colour film
