What it is
Persian anatomical treatise dedicated to the Timurid prince Pir Muhammad, with full-body colour plates of the skeletal, nervous, muscular, venous and arterial systems. It is the first complete illustrated anatomical atlas of the Islamic world.
The figures follow schemes from the 'five-figure series' also found in Europe, whose common origin is debated. They do not derive from actual dissection.
What it led to
- visual teaching of anatomy in Persia and Mughal India
- illustrated copies made up to the 18th century
