What was discovered
Atmospheric neutrinos change flavour as they pass through the Earth (Super-K, 1998), and SNO demonstrates in 2001 that solar neutrinos 'missing' since 1968 have transformed into other flavours. Neutrinos have mass, the first physics beyond the standard model.
2002 Nobel Prize for Davis and Koshiba, and 2015 for Kajita and McDonald.
