What it is
A two-seat light aeroplane with a 57.6 kW electric motor and lithium-ion batteries that received a type certificate from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency in 2020. It is intended for training flights with many take-offs and landings.
Endurance is about 50 minutes of flight with reserve. Electric aircraft had flown before (Pipistrel's Alpha Electro, 2015), but this is the first with an EASA type certificate, issued in June 2020.
What it led to
- a regulatory framework for electric passenger aircraft
- flying schools with lower operating costs
- regional electric aviation
