What it is
Machine that reaps, threshes and cleans grain in a single pass, first pulled by 30 mules or by steam and, from 1938, self-propelled. It eliminated the harvest crew.
Holt's crawler tractor (1904) led to the tank.
What it led to
- Farming of hundreds of hectares by a single farmer
- Great mechanised grain plains (United States, Argentina, Ukraine)
- Rural depopulation and agribusiness
