What was discovered
Working in a makeshift laboratory on a Kent farm, Keith and his student Flack located in a mole's heart a small group of specialized tissue at the junction of the vena cava and the right atrium, which generates the electrical impulse that sets the heartbeat's rhythm. The find explained the origin of the heart's natural beat.
