What it is
A service that transmitted news, concerts and stock quotes over telephone lines to thousands of subscribers at fixed times. It was the first continuous cable-based broadcasting system and lasted until 1944.
It opened on 15 February 1893; Puskás died in March and his brother Albert carried on. From 1925 it mainly relayed radio programmes. It is a forerunner of wireless broadcasting, not a form of it.
