⚠️ Disputed: the sources disagree.
What it is
A city of more than 100,000 inhabitants laid out on a grid offset 15.5° from north, organised around the Avenue of the Dead, with apartment compounds and drainage. It was the largest city in the Americas of its time.
The 15.5° orientation is linked to solar calendar dates; its exact meaning is debated.
What it led to
- an urban model of reference for all Mesoamerica
- planned multi-family housing
