What it is
South Korea rolled out the first large-scale commercial CDMA mobile network, using Qualcomm technology and development by ETRI. It boosted Samsung and LG as handset makers and paved the way to 3G.
Hong Kong (Hutchison) launched a CDMA network a few months earlier, but Korea's was the first with nationwide coverage.
