What it is
Four amateurs broadcast the opera Parsifal from the Teatro Coliseo with a transmitter of their own and began regular programming as Radio Argentina. It is regarded as one of the first radio broadcasts open to the public.
World priority is disputed: KDKA of Pittsburgh started on 2 November 1920; there were earlier broadcasts in Detroit (8MK, August 1920) and in the Netherlands (1919). The Buenos Aires one is the first in Latin America with continuous programming.
What it led to
- Regular broadcasting in Argentina
