⚠️ Disputed: the sources disagree.

What it is

A Roman missal in the Glagolitic alphabet and Old Croatian, printed on 22 February 1483. It is the first book printed in Croatian and the first in the Glagolitic alphabet.

The copy does not state the place of printing; Kosinj (Lika) is proposed by Croatian tradition, but also Senj, Rijeka or Venice. It is not the first book printed in a Slavic language (Czech books exist from 1468) nor the first in Cyrillic (Kraków, 1491).

What it led to

  • Glagolitic printing in Croatia (Senj, Rijeka) from 1494
  • consolidation of liturgical Croatian against Latin
