What it is
A machine that slices and wraps bread in uniform slices. The Chillicothe baker first sold it on 7 July 1928; the phrase 'the best thing since sliced bread' comes from its success.
Rohwedder worked on the machine from 1912; a fire destroyed the first prototype. A brief ban on sliced bread in the US in 1943 was reversed after protests.
